Nokia optical network solutions – Scale made simple
Nokia’s latest fifth-generation Photonic Service Engine solutions (PSE-V) provide network operators the option to scale the capacity and performance of their optical transport networks with application-optimized options that provide the lowest TCO across the wide range of network use cases, from access and metro networks, to the most challenging long-haul and subsea links. PSE-V Super-Coherent (PSE-Vs) optics enable maximum capacity-reach performance over challenging long-haul and subsea applications spanning thousands of kilometers. Operating at 90Gaud speeds, PSE-Vs implements advanced coherent techniques such as 2nd-generation probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) and continuous baud rate adjustment, with 100GHz WDM channel spacing to enable seamless upgrades over existing ROADM networks and WDM channel plans. PSE-Vs provides an optimal solution for network operators to support the highest capacities at the longest distances. The PSE-V Compact (PSE-Vc) solutions enable pluggable 400Gb/s DCOs in industry-standard form factors such as CFP2 and QSFP-DD, support 400ZR, 400OpenZR+ and OpenROADM implementations standards, and provide flexibility to operate in both optical transport and router platforms. Optimized for low power consumption, PSE-Vc optics support high optical launch powers to maximize performance across ROADM networks, and provide an ideal choice for use in access, metro DCI, metro aggregation, and metro-regional core networks. PSE-V super-coherent and compact solutions are both available across a wide range of optical transport platforms including compact modular disaggregated transponders, integrated WDM/transponder platforms, and P-OTN switches with integrated WDM optics, providing network operator application-optimized options to scale capacity anywhere and everywhere across their networks.

Open RAN enables multivendor solutions, which is not an option with today’s current RAN offers that are propriety solutions and do not allow CSPs to pick and choose which vendors they want to deploy for specific RAN functionality. Open RAN changes this, so CSPs have choice and control over their entire RAN architecture. The openness creates challenges, primarily the integration and operations of multivendor solutions. To help CSPs overcome these complexities and challenges, Dell Technologies is working with an Open RAN ecosystem of partners to bring to market validated solutions that help to simplify the transition to Open RAN.

How the coherent optics market is evolving
Infinera’s approach to addressing this rapidly changing market
What is driving interest in point-to-multipoint applications
What the future looks like for embedded and pluggable coherent optical transport
What will be the keys to successfully bringing this type of technology to market
The coherent optics market is evolving as strong traffic growth puts pressure on transport networks. Infinera is leveraging our deep vertical integration, advanced optical toolkit, and industry-leading innovation to bring 800G+ coherent optical transport to the core, 400G pluggable to the metro, and 100G pluggable to the access edge. Growth in the coherent pluggables market is even more significant. Infinera is one of the few players with fabrication facilities and years of experience building our own optical engines including the photonic integrated circuit frontend and digital signal processing (DSP) backend. With our ICE-XR pluggables, we are delivering high performance, intelligent optical modules that exceed the requirements of point-to-point applications while reimagining the network architecture with the introduction of the industry’s first coherent point-to-multipoint solution. Watch Tom Burns, General Manager, Optical Modules and Coherent Solutions Group, who’s making XR optics happen at Infinera, and find out:

Cloud Platform
Starting with a distributed cloud, Studio provides a production-grade Kubernetes cloud platform for managing edge cloud infrastructure. Based on the open source StarlingX project, Studio compiles best-in-class open-source technology to deploy and manage distributed networks.
Analytics
Once a distributed cloud is deployed, Studio supports effective management of a distributed cloud system by consuming and processing data through machine-learning algorithms, to produce meaningful insights for decision-making. With full stack monitoring of the cloud infrastructure cluster and services, Studio collects, analyzes, and visualizes cloud behavioral data so you can keep your cloud up and optimized while reducing operational costs.
Conductor
Studio provides one platform to achieve complete end-to-end automation. Pick the applications you need from an app catalog, deploy them to a carrier-grade cloud platform, and orchestrate the resources needed for the applications simply, intuitively, and logically. Scale from a handful of nodes to thousands of nodes in a geographically dispersed distributed environment.
Acacia Communications, now part of Cisco, has introduced the latest coherent DSP, the Jannu. The device will support 1.2-Tbps optical modules – which Acacia plans to offer as the Coherent Interconnect Module 8 (CIM 8) in a form factor slightly larger than a CFP2. Jannu is an eight-generation coherent DSP that leverages second-generation 3D Shaping built on 5-nm CMOS. The device will deliver less than half the power/bit of current 800G technology based on 96-GBaud approaches. The resulting module will feature continuous baud rate adjustment up to 140 GBaud to enable optimal transmission rate/distance tradeoffs applications ranging from long-haul transport to data center interconnects. In addition to meeting 1.2-Tbps requirements, the module will support extended reach of 800G to enable such transmission rates in 90% of reach use cases.
